I have a good friend in Chicago who is an editor of a monthly magazine. When we get together our conversation always ends up going down the PR, media, story path.
And this common theme typically emerges: Media want stories.
Of course they do, it’s their job. But they want your stories. Those that are newsworthy, interesting and add value to their readers, listeners, and viewers.
They want the human interest stuff, something different and unique, relevant and relatable. The kind of story that doesn’t sell anything. Rather, the kind of story that educates and informs.
Here’s the point: When you’re ready to reach out to a reporter, podcast host, or journalist, go into it with a servant mentality. Help them tell a great story.
